3 Division Signals at the Australian War Memorial Website

The 3 Division Signals page featured on the Australian War Memorials webpage gives a brief overview of the 3rd Division’s movements and placement of Headquarters 3rd Division during the Pacific campaign.  The information has been correlated from war diaries and academically sourced books, and aims to give general information to the public in regards to the Second World War.  The language used is concise and simple.  As the webpage only mentions Headquarters 3rd Division, some, but not all, of the references could be of use for further exploration.  The information is a good foundation, and introduction to Headquarters 3rd Division movements and involvement, and from these dates and places further research can commence.

New Guinea at CLIK Website

CLIK is a website put together by the Australian Government Department of Veterans’ Affairs, with a section devoted to Australia’s history in wars.  The page on the New Guinea gives an overview to Australia’s involvement in the Pacific campaign, movements and major offensives.  The page refers to the 3rd Division generally, and is a good basis for further, more specific research.  The webpage does not reference any sources for the information, but given it is a government website, the information is likely based on government information, but will need to be verified.  The webpage has been written so that someone with no knowledge of the conflict can understand and learn the basic points.  The pages are organised chronologically, so exploring those either side of this page may also give good background information.

RecordSearch NameSearch at the National Archives of Australia Website

The National Archives of Australia is the repository for most of servicemen’s records that served in the Second World War.  Through this website members of Headquarters 3rd Division records can be viewed, if they are digitised, or requested.  As very few records from the Second World War have been digitised at this time, most will need to be requested.  A list of names of those in the unit will need to be obtained for this resource to be of use.  Service records contain movements of an individual within their unit, any illness of injuries, reference to personal life before enlisting, any remarkable conduct while serving, medals received and a photograph, amongst other information.  These records will build a good foundation in finding out about the men of Headquarters 3rd Division and the individual roles they undertook.

PLEASE NOTE:  Link to website might need to be refreshed.
